To become a Twitch Affiliate in 2026 you need 25 followers, 4 hours of streaming, streams on 4 different days, and an average of 3 concurrent viewers on 4 of those days, all within the same 30-day window. You also need two-factor authentication turned on. Once you qualify, Twitch sends an invite, usually within 24 to 48 hours.

What are the Twitch Affiliate requirements in 2026?

Twitch calls this checklist the Path to Affiliate. It lives in the Achievements section of your Creator Dashboard, and all four items must be complete inside one rolling 30-day period. The official list is on Twitch's Joining the Affiliate Program page.

RequirementThresholdWhat trips people up
Followers25Progress shows 0/25 if you gain no new followers for 180 days

If you are 13 to 17, you can still join. A parent or guardian has to agree to the Monetized Streamer Agreement with you during onboarding.

Did the Twitch Affiliate requirements change?

Yes. Many older guides still quote 50 followers, 500 broadcast minutes and 7 unique days. Twitch's current help center and the Achievements guide list the lower bar above: 25 followers, 4 hours, 4 days, and 3 average viewers on 4 days.

The practical effect is that a new streamer with a small circle of friends and a regular schedule can qualify in the first month. Four streams of an hour each covers both the time and day requirements. The hard part for most people is still the viewer average, because it needs real concurrent viewers rather than people who drop in for a minute.

Before you plan around any number you read online, open your own Achievements page. It is the only view that reflects exactly what Twitch is measuring for your channel right now, including the checkmarks that show what you have completed inside the current 30-day window.

How is the "average of 3 viewers" counted?

This is the requirement most people misread. Twitch counts average concurrent viewers, meaning people watching at the same time, across a stream day. Ten different people who each watch for two minutes at different points do not make an average of 3.

Weak days do not hurt you. Twitch's own example: if you stream 10 days in the last 30 and 4 of them averaged 3 or more concurrent viewers, you meet the requirement. The other 6 days are ignored.

Three details matter:

  • Chatbots do not count. Nightbot, Moobot and similar bots only connect to chat, so they add nothing to viewer averages.
  • Days run on GMT. A stream that crosses midnight GMT can split across two stream days, which changes the averages for each.
  • Achievements lag. Progress can take 24 to 48 hours to sync, so a stream you just finished may not show yet.

Your Creator Dashboard shows all-time numbers while Achievements shows the last 30 days. That is why the two rarely match.

How long does it take to get the Affiliate invite?

After your final requirement is met, Twitch says the invite usually arrives within 24 to 48 hours, and in some cases up to 72 hours. It comes by email and as a Twitch notification, and a Get Started button appears on your Path to Affiliate achievement.

You do not need the email itself. The invite is only a notification, and you can start onboarding directly from the Creator Dashboard. If the button does not appear, check that your email address is verified in account settings. People miss this one a lot.

If more than three days pass and nothing shows up, Twitch suggests confirming that all four achievements carry a checkmark for the same 30-day window, then contacting support. Do not restart your streaming plan in the meantime. Missing a few days of progress because you paused can push one of the requirements outside the window.

How to become a Twitch Affiliate step by step

The full sequence, from zero to a monetized channel:

  1. Turn on 2FA now. Do it before you qualify. Twitch recommends this so onboarding is not delayed once you are eligible.
  2. Stream on a schedule until all four Path to Affiliate achievements show a checkmark in the same 30 days.
  3. Open onboarding from the invite or the Creator Dashboard.
  4. Accept the Monetized Streamer Agreement. Use your legal name exactly as it appears on your tax documents.
  5. Complete two tax interviews (royalty and service) through Amazon Tax Central. Processing typically takes 24 to 48 hours.
  6. Pick a payout method. Options include direct deposit, eCheck or local bank, PayPal, check and wire transfer, depending on your country.

Most onboarding problems are browser problems. Twitch recommends a private window, disabled extensions, or a different browser if the tax form stalls. If a payout method demands a postal code you did not enter earlier, you either pick a method that does not need one or restart onboarding with your real code. Never enter placeholder data. The Affiliate Program FAQ covers the edge cases.

What do you unlock as a Twitch Affiliate?

Since 2025, any streamer who completes basic monetization setup can accept subs and Bits, but the balance can only be spent on Twitch through Spendable Balance. Affiliate status is what turns that balance into a real payout and unlocks the rest of the toolset, as shown on Twitch's About Monetization page.

FeatureAffiliate
Subscriptions (Tier 1, 2, 3)Yes, 50/50 standard net split
Bits and CheeringYes, including Bits in Extensions
Ad revenueYes
Cash payoutsYes, Net-15 after the monthly threshold
VOD storage14 days (7 for non-Affiliates)
Upload VODs, subscriber-only VODs and streamsYes
Creator SponsorshipsYes, after Sponsorship Certification
Plus ProgramYes, 60/40 or 70/30 if you qualify

The Plus Program is worth knowing about early. Affiliates who earn 100 Plus Points for 3 consecutive months move to a 60/40 net split on recurring and gift subs, and 300 points gets 70/30. Points come from paid recurring subs only: 1 for Tier 1, 2 for Tier 2, 6 for Tier 3. Prime subs do not count. Our subscription revenue share guide runs through the math.

For Bits, see how Bits convert to dollars.

How do Twitch Affiliate payouts work?

You get paid once a month on a Net-15 schedule. Revenue earned in April is paid out starting May 15, then your bank or PayPal takes its own processing time. The minimum is $50 for most payout methods and $100 for wire transfer. If you fall short, the balance rolls over to the next month.

Payout methodTypical arrival after payout starts
PayPal1 to 2 days
eCheck or local bank1 to 4 days
Direct deposit or ACH (US only)3 to 5 days
Wire transfer1 to 3 days
Check1 to 2 weeks
Range chart of typical arrival times for Twitch Affiliate payouts by method: PayPal 1-2 days, wire 1-3 days, eCheck or local bank 1-4 days, ACH 3-5 days, check 1-2 weeks
PayPal is the fastest way to receive a Twitch payout once it starts; paper checks take up to two weeks.

Two things catch new Affiliates. First, payout fees apply to Affiliates, while Twitch covers them for Partners. Second, if you change payout or tax details, do it early in the month. Twitch says changes made after the 8th will not apply to that month's payout, and restarting onboarding sets your method to Hold Payouts until you finish.

Our payout schedule guide has a troubleshooting checklist for missing payments.

Why haven't I been invited to Twitch Affiliate?

If your numbers look right but no invite has arrived, it is usually one of these:

  • The 30-day window moved. You hit 3 average viewers early in the month and the fourth stream day later, but the early days have now aged out.
  • Your "viewers" were bots. Chatbots never count toward the average, and paid view bots put your account at risk instead of helping.
  • GMT boundaries split your streams. Late-night streams in the Americas often cross midnight GMT.
  • Sync delay. Achievements can take up to 48 hours to update.
  • 2FA or email not set up. Onboarding needs both.
  • Account limit. You can have monetization on up to 5 accounts. A sixth removes features from the least active one.

Check the Achievements page first, since it shows which item is missing a checkmark.

How can you hit the Affiliate requirements faster?

The follower, hours and days requirements take care of themselves if you stream on a fixed schedule. The viewer average is where the effort goes.

Stream fewer, longer sessions at the same time slot rather than scattered short ones. Concurrent viewers build over an hour or two, and a regular slot lets people plan around you. Tell the friends, Discord members and social followers you already have exactly when you will be live, since 3 concurrent viewers is often just three people who show up at the same time.

Give people a reason to stay and talk. Interactive segments where chat votes, ranks or competes tend to keep viewers in the room longer than passive gameplay. Our free on-stream games such as tier lists and brackets are built for that and run as OBS overlays.

Clip your best moments and post them as short-form video that points back to your schedule. Do not use view bots or follow-for-follow schemes. They distort your analytics and put the account at risk.

FAQ

Can I be a Twitch Affiliate at 16?

Yes, if you are at least 13. A parent or guardian must agree to the Monetized Streamer Agreement during onboarding and supervise the account.

Is the Twitch Affiliate program available in every country?

Twitch says the Affiliate program is available globally. Payout methods and tax treatment vary by country, so check the options shown during onboarding.

Do I lose my earnings if I leave the Affiliate program?

No. If you are above the payout threshold with a valid payout method, the balance is paid on the next cycle. Below the threshold, it stays on the account until you rejoin and pass it.

Can I be an Affiliate and a Partner at the same time?

No. Partner replaces Affiliate. Once you are consistently drawing larger audiences, read our Twitch Partner requirements guide.

How much do new Twitch Affiliates earn?

It varies widely with subs, Bits and ad demand, which also changes month to month. Our breakdown of how much streamers make explains the moving parts, including income sources that do not depend on Twitch's splits.
